Undergraduate Summer Internships in Energy and the Environment

The Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment (ACEE) invites undergraduates to apply for paid summer internships. Funding will be provided for research projects, particularly field work and laboratory research, performed under the auspices of faculty doing research in areas related to the ACEE. If approved, current freshmen, sophomores, or juniors will receive a $4,000 stipend for eight weeks of summer research and up to $4,000 for research related expenses. Each applicant must recruit a Princeton faculty member to supervise and host the student in his/her lab. Research must begin by June 30, 2014 and last at least eight weeks. Funding is made possible through the generous support of the Peter B. Lewis Fund for Student Innovation in Energy and the Environment and the Dede T. Bartlett Fund for Research in Energy and the Environment.

Recipients of funds under this program will be required to do the following:

  • secure the endorsement and supervision of a faculty advisor;
  • account for the use of funds received for research related expenses and return any unused funds;
  • submit a final research report to the ACEE in the fall of 2014;
  • provide acknowledgement to the supporting donors in the report and in any subsequent publication based on the research performed; and
  • notify the ACEE of any future publication based on the research performed.

Please submit a proposal of no more than two pages that describes the project and clearly identifies its applicability to the ACEE mission of providing technical solutions to ensure our energy and environmental future. Provide a detailed budget for research related expenses (up to $4,000) if requested. Applications must be submitted through the Student Activities Funding Engine (SAFE). Advisors must send an email, endorsing the project, to acee@princeton.edu by the application deadline.

The priority deadline for applications is February 24, 2014. The final deadline is March 10, 2014. Notification of awards will be made in April 2014. Incomplete funding applications will not be considered. Summaries of projects funded in 2011, 2012, and 2013 can be viewed on our website.
