Siemens Corporate Technology joined Princeton E-ffiliates Partnership, an initiative that forges research collaborations between practitioners outside academia and experts across Princeton University to pursue transformational innovations in the fields of energy and the environment.

Siemens is focused on the areas of electrification, automation and digitalization. One of the world’s largest producers of energy-efficient, resource-saving technologies, Siemens is a leading supplier of systems for power generation and transmission, as well as medical diagnosis. The company employs 372,000 people worldwide.

“Developing technological solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy use by the transportation, building, and electricity generation sectors will require deep collaboration and creative thinking,” said Mark Zondlo, associate director for external partnerships at the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University and associate professor of civil and environmental engineering. “We see multiple collaborative opportunities with Siemens that will be greatly facilitated by their membership in E ffiliates, which is tasked with breaking down barriers between industry, government, non-governmental organizations, and academia. This new partnership will accelerate forward-thinking research that will have wide impacts on energy and the environment.”

Siemens’ E-ffiliates membership has already facilitated submissions of grant proposals to the U.S. Department of Energy to support collaborative research with Princeton faculty on geothermal district heating for buildings and fast charging technologies for electric vehicles. Siemens is also working with the Andlinger Center to develop internships for doctoral students that leverage the close proximity of the Siemens Corporate Technology research facility in Princeton.

Founded in 2011 as an initiative of the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment, Princeton E-ffiliates Partnership fosters research collaboration, works to swiftly move high-impact research from lab to market, and facilitates technology transfer between Princeton and its members. Other E-ffiliates members include ExxonMobil, PSEG, American Tower, Power Survey Company, and NRG Energy.
