Kimberly Kurtis

Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Scholarship, Raymond Allen Jones Chair & Professor, Georgia Institute of Technology

Bio

Kim Kurtis, FACI, FACerS, holds the Jones Chair and Professor position at Georgia Tech’s School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, with a courtesy appointment in Materials Science and Engineering. Her research endeavors focus on the multi-scale structure and performance of cement-based materials, driven by the global imperative to develop sustainable, cost-effective, and equitable infrastructure. Renowned for her integration of advanced characterization techniques, novel synthesis and manufacturing methodologies, and data science approaches, her research has significantly enhanced the design, utilization, and durability of cement-based materials. With over $20 million in research funding, she has authored more than 200 technical publications, secured four U.S. patents, and has influenced both Georgia concrete design standards and national durability guidelines. As a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute and the American Ceramics Society, she has received numerous accolades for her contributions to research, education, and service. Furthermore, she has held several prominent leadership positions that have advanced science-based cement research.

All seminars are held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lunch is provided at 12:00 noon.
