Andlinger Center kicks off new academic year
On Sept. 15, Director of the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment Iain McCulloch welcomed back students, researchers, and faculty at a lunch celebrating the start of the 26-27 academic year. Remarks touched on the importance of Andlinger’s mission and highlighted ways the center will promote connection and community in the coming year.
In his welcoming, McCulloch alluded to the critical point that Andlinger supported research sits at in today’s global landscape. “The current geopolitical situation for energy is quite transitional at the moment,” he said. He said this theme will be explored in depth at the center’s upcoming annual meeting on energy security, which will be held Oct. 29.
Recently appointed Andlinger Executive Director Raphael Aryeetey took the mic to give a message to the students and post-doctoral researchers at the center. “We are here for you,” he said. “Leadership, faculty, and staff are working together to make sure that your experience here at Andlinger is not only academically successful but that you feel connected with each other.”
During their remarks, McCulloch and Aryeetey emphasized the center’s two seminar series, both of which will begin later this month. The Peer Seminar Series brings together members from different research groups to give talks overviewing their work and engage in discussion. The Highlight Seminar Series hosts distinguished speakers from various institutions across energy and the environment and is open to the public.
Students in particular were encouraged to take advantage of the seminar series and other opportunities that allow for convening and relationship building. “These events give you opportunities to learn, connect, and get more out of your time at the Center” said Aryeetey.
The overarching message: Think of the year ahead as an invitation to engage fully with the people, programs, and opportunities that make up the Andlinger Center community.
