Energy Security in an Era of Recurring Geopolitical Shocks

The Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment will convene its 2026 Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 29, at Princeton University’s Maeder Hall Auditorium. The meeting will center on the subject of energy security.

Recent geopolitical shocks are putting energy security in sharp focus from disruptions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine to renewed instability in the Gulf. At the same time, intensifying strategic competition between major powers, including the United States, China, and Europe, is reshaping trade, technology access, and supply chains for energy and critical materials. Together, these dynamics signal a deeper structural reality: energy systems are being transformed not only by decarbonization, but by recurring disruptions and growing fragmentation of the global economy and geopolitics.

Against this backdrop, the 15th Annual Meeting will convene leaders from academia, industry, and policy to examine the evolving foundations of energy security in a more volatile world. The program will explore how infrastructure, technology, and policy must co-evolve to deliver systems that are not only low carbon, but resilient, affordable, and scalable.
