Prof. Michael Oppenheimer will be in conversation with SPIA Leadership Guest André de Ruyter, the former Eskom Holdings’ Group Chief Executive who oversaw the integrated electricity utility with some 40,000 employees and annual sales of US$15 billion. Eskom provides 95% South Africa’s electricity needs and approximately 45% of the electricity used across the Africa. In February this year, André resigned from his position and in the months following, wrote a best-selling memoir about his time at Eskom (Truth to Power: My Three Years Inside Eskom), coming out strongly against corruption, malfeasance and poor policy choices and strongly for a greener, more inclusive energy system.
